Anyone who knew Aaron, knew how much he loved and valued the sport of wrestling. Aaron showed his love for the sport through his commitment as a coach first for Skagway High School, then Corbett High School, and, finally, closing out his coaching career at Grant High School. Aaron spent some of his last lucid days talking wrestling and giving advice to the high school wrestlers who visited with him, who shared letters with him about what he had taught them both on and off the mat. They even had the chance to meet some of Aaron’s beloved Roughneck teammates who flew in to be with Aaron. Coaching wrestling during the last two years of his life provided Aaron with a purpose and a community while he navigated chemo treatments and a new identity.
To honor Aaron and his love for the sport of wrestling, for all that it gave him, and for all that Aaron gave back to it, we are establishing the Aaron Q Long Memorial Scholarship Fund.
